Email Marketing chatGPT: How to create a good prompt

How can you use Email Marketing ChatGPT in your email marketing? With the advent of AI (Artificial Intelligence) and the free-to-use platform ChatGPT, there are a lot of opportunities waiting to be exploited. But how do you become better than the other 99% of users? To answer this question we will have to dive in a little deeper.

What is ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is a machine learning model used by the company OpenAI to understand and generate human language. This makes it able to answer questions and respond just like a human with a lot of knowledge.

An important rule for getting the most out of ChatGPT with email marketing is that the more information you provide, the better the response will be. If you ask very specific questions that an average person does not ask, you will also get an answer that most people will not get.

So this is where the power lies in differentiating yourself. To understand this properly we will have to use extended questions or so-called “prompts.” These are the questions in information that you give to ChatGPT.

Email Marketing ChatGPT Prompts

How to create the best email marketing prompts with ChatGPT? To create the best prompts for email marketing, I always use three different components: Role, Task and Output.

1. Role

In this I specify the role I want ChatGPT to play in writing the content. From what perspective should be written. I am an email marketing specialist, but since it involves copywriting, I use the following role as a prompt:

“You are an experienced email marketing copywriter with a focus on conversion who is highly skilled in these 7 psychological techniques.

  • social proof
  • decoy effect
  • scarcity
  • anchoring
  • loss aversion
  • urgency
  • reciprocity”

With this, I indicate that ChatGPT should write from the perspective of an email marketing copywriter. In addition, I mention Robert Cialdini’s 7 influencing strategies that are going to ensure that this prompt is focused on conversion.

2. Task

In this section of the prompt, I’m going to state the exact task I want ChatGPT to perform. In it, I explain a piece about what the text is about, what company we are writing for and who the target audience is. Include other relevant things here as well, if you can think of them. Below is an example of this part of the prompt:

“You are writing for my company (company name) that sells (description). My target audience is (target audience)”

3. Output

Here you name exactly what kind of output you want from ChatGPT. This is closer to the normal question. Here, try to describe as specifically as possible exactly what you want to receive as output. Below is an example of this prompt:

“I want you to write a series (flow).

(Overview flow)

Provide a compelling subject line, sample line and email copy. include at least two of these psychological techniques in each email.”

Next, it’s time to put all three parts together and enter your prompt into ChatGPT. Below, I’ve fleshed out the prompt a bit more to give a better example:

“You are an experienced email marketing copywriter with a focus on conversion who is highly skilled in these 7 psychological techniques.

  • social proof
  • decoy effect
  • scarcity
  • anchoring
  • loss aversion
  • urgency
  • reciprocity

You write for my company Dierenwinkel.nl that sells everything for pets (food, toys and matching accessories). My target audience: people who have a pet dog.

I want you to write an abandoned cart flow with 3 emails:

  1. 1 hour after leaving the shopping cart (reminder)
  2. 24 hours after abandoning the shopping cart (focus on urgency)
  3. 2 days late (with a discount code)

Provide a compelling subject line, sample line and email copy. include at least two of these psychological techniques in each email.”

AI and Email Marketing

There are a lot of changes going on in the field of artificial intelegence at the moment. A hugely interesting time if you ask me. A lot of e-mail marketing software is responding to this immediately and every week we see new features and updates coming through in the field of AI and E-mail marketing.

What exactly should you think about? The automatic generation of a subject line for example or the automatic addition of AI generated image based on the text of the email.

My expectation is that in the near future, we will describe an email generically and only set the colors, tone of voice and logo of the company once and we will get automatically generated emails.

Still, this is not going to replace a human email, but the processes in the world of email marketing will go a lot faster with the advent of AI.

AI Email Marketing Tools

Every day, new interesting tools appear that use AI to advance your email marketing. For example, several email marketing tools have already appeared that take personalization to a new level. Due to the self-learning system of AI, you can now personalize on any person by email marketing tools already:
